Connections Educational Resources Family Handbook 2016-2017

Connections Educational Resources is a homeschool enrichment program.  Connections is not a school and does not operate as such.  Connections is also not a religious organization, nor is it affiliated with any church or religious organization.

Tutors:

  • Share their enthusiasm and love of their subject with their student

  • Prepare engaging weekly lessons and activities to enhance and help organize study and learning at home

  • Provide feedback and evaluation of work (including grades and scores if appropriate) based on their experience and knowledge both of the subject and of typical expectations of grade level.

  • Provide a syllabus or information sheet for each class which outlines guidelines regarding late assignments, preferred method of communication, etc.

  • Communicate concerns regarding student performance or behavior with parents.

Parents:

  • Ensure that students arrive on time for each class (please no more than five minutes early) with required materials in hand.

  • Ensure that assignments are completed at home

  • Inform the tutor of anticipated absences and plan to make up missed work

  • Maintain all records, assign final grade, and create transcripts.

  • Assume responsibility for understanding and complying with the homeschooling laws in the state of North Carolina.

  • Inform themselves of admission requirements of any school to which they plan to transfer or apply, and plan and choose courses accordingly

  • Communicate questions or concerns regarding the class promptly and privately

Students:

  • Arrive engaged, ready to learn, and participate in classes

  • Complete their work at home

  • Observe and comply with all class rules and requirements

  • Take responsibility (appropriate to age and with parent’s help) for understanding the syllabus or information sheet, including the policy for arranging for late assignments, turning in work, etc.

  • Treat every tutor and student with respect and courtesy

General Helpful Reminders:

  • Connections can not, and does not, offer any guarantees regarding specific academic goals.

  • No tutor’s name should be listed as an educator when filling out NCDNPE intent to homeschool paperwork or standardized testing forms; nor should the group Connections Educational Resources be listed as a school or curriculum.

  • Each tutor will explain their cell phone and other device policy; however, Connections is not responsible for any device or property of any student.

  • Parents and students are asked to use common sense and courtesy in dress.  NO articles of clothing displaying profanity, references to drug use, or confederate flags.

  • Please show consideration for the health of tutors and fellow students, and keep sick children at home.  A call or email to let us know of an absence is appreciated.

  • When there are concerns or complaints – please honor the hard work, dedication, and very human feelings of your tutors by addressing them privately and seeking to resolve the issue.  Parents and students sharing complaints only with each other will not yield positive results.
